2025 Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid
For the 2025 model year, the Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) — known until now this edition as the Prius Prime — continues to embody a smart and efficient blend of all-electric and hybrid performance. The name change aligns with Toyota’s effort to simplify its vehicle naming approach (the RAV4 Prime was similarly renamed as the RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid).
Toyota’s plug-in hybrids offer the best of both worlds: electric range for moderate commutes and errand runs along with fuel-efficient hybrid power for longer drives. The ‘25 Prius PHEV also stands out with its practical five-seat hatchback design and a zero-to-60 mph time of 6.6 seconds, making it one of Toyota’s speediest models. ToyotaCare is also included to cover two years or 25,000 miles of scheduled services as well as supplying 24/7 roadside assistance.

Trims and Powertrain
You can get the front-wheel drive ‘25 Prius Plug-in Hybrid in one of three trim packages: SE, XSE, or XSE Premium. Each gets its power from a powertrain made up of a 2.0-liter four-cylinder combustion engine, an electric motor, and a lithium-ion battery. This combination produces a combined horsepower of 220; it’s managed by an electronic continuously variable transmission (eCVT).
The SE is the most efficient, treating its driver to an estimated 44 miles of all-electric driving range before reverting to hybrid operation. The two higher trims aren’t far behind, returning up to 39 miles on battery power alone. Recharging with a Level 2/240-volt charger takes about 4 hours, or around 11 hours via a 120-volt setup. The SE’s EPA-estimated gas-electric fuel economy is 53 mpg city/51 mpg highway, while the XSE and XSE Premium achieve 50 mpg in town and 47 mpg on the open road.
Standard Features and Equipment
The SE is a nicely outfitted starter trim, offering a heated SofTex leatherette-wrapped steering wheel, a 7-inch top-mounted driver information display, auto climate control, fabric upholstery, LED exterior lighting, proximity keyless entry, push-button start, extendable front sun visors with lighted vanity mirrors, a tilt-and-telescopic steering column, rain-sensing windshield wipers, heated power side mirrors, a cover for the cargo area, and 17-inch alloy wheels round out the list.
The XSE ramps up the amenities with heated front seats, an eight-way power driver's seat, a rearview mirror (auto-dimming), 19-inch alloy wheels, and six USB ports. An app-based digital key and fixed-panel glass roof are both optional. The top-grade XSE Premium is adorned with a fixed-panel glass roof, heated and ventilated front seats, a driver's memory system, a digital key, wireless device charging, and a power liftgate. A solar-charging roof, a digital rearview mirror, and heated rear seats are optional.
Safety Technology and Advanced Driver Aids
Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is installed on every 2025 Prius Plug-in Hybrid. The included driver-assist technologies consist of adaptive cruise control, lane departure alert with steering assist, pre-collision braking with pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring, proactive driving assist, lane-tracing assist, rear cross-traffic alert, road sign and traffic jam assists, automatic high beams, and safe exit assist. Added to the XSE and XSE Premium are front and rear parking sensors with automatic braking (optional for the SE); the XSE Premium’s options are advanced parking assist and a surround-view monitor. All trims get a backup camera, anti-lock brakes, a full set of airbags, Smart Stop Technology (which minimizes unintended acceleration), stability and traction control, and hill start assist control.
Connectivity and Infotainment
An 8-inch touchscreen system is the infotainment basecamp for the SE and XSE, while the XSE Premium jumps to a 12.3-inch touchscreen (the bigger screen is optional for the XSE). Wireless smartphone connectivity via Android Auto and Apple CarPlay is standard, as are SiriusXM satellite radio and Bluetooth. All trims are set up for subscription access to a Wi-Fi hotspot, cloud-based navigation, and Toyota's connected services, which offers emergency help and other remote functions. The two lower trims get a six-speaker audio system, while the XSE Premium moves up to an eight-speaker JBL array.
