2026 Toyota
bZ Woodland
Preview

Toyota has big plans to add a rugged, adventure-focused variant to its all-electric bZ compact crossover lineup. The 2026 bZ Woodland will bring outdoor capability to the bZ nameplate – previously known as the bZ4X – with standard all-wheel drive and X-Mode technology. A healthy 375 horsepower and an estimated 260-mile range are also part of the formula. The Woodland will distinguish itself from the other bZ trims with its higher ground clearance, improved towing capacity, and ruggedized styling elements.

The bZ Woodland is scheduled to arrive in early 2026 as the company’s 21st electrified model, joining the refreshed-for-2026 bZ and the new C-HR in the automaker's expanding EV portfolio. This page runs through the information that Toyota has released so far.

Design and Capability

The 2026 bZ Woodland will share Toyota's signature ā€œhammerheadā€ front end with the standard bZ but will add design elements to separate it from other bZ trims. Most notably, the vehicle will stretch nearly 6 inches longer than the other bZs, providing more than 30 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats. Plus, wide black overfenders will give the bZ Woodland a more powerful stance, reinforced by 8.3 inches of ground clearance. The unique 18-inch aluminum wheels, featuring removable covers, can be wrapped with optional all-terrain tires for buyers who intend to head off the smooth pavement. Toyota also promises a 3,500-pound towing capacity, making the bZ Woodland a true adventure-ready vehicle.

Powertrain and Off-Road Technology

The bZ Woodland will have a pair of electric motors putting out a combined 375 horsepower and will come with standard all-wheel drive. The motors will be housed in front and rear eAxles, providing immediate torque delivery to all four wheels. A 74.7 kWh lithium-ion battery is expected to provide an estimated 260-mile driving range. While many EV crossovers offer all-wheel drive, the bZ Woodland’s will be set up differently. The standard X-Mode system will enable the operator to select driving modes tailored to specific road conditions. The system will in turn automatically optimize braking and power delivery for enhanced traction, while its Grip-Control component uses low-speed power modulation to improve off-road performance and maintain a consistent speed on rough terrain.

Advanced Driver Aids and Safety Technology

Driver-assistance technology in the bZ Woodland will be start with the Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 system, which is made up of adaptive cruise control, pre-collision detection with pedestrian recognition, lane departure alert with steering assist, lane tracing assist, road sign assist, automatic high beams, and proactive driving assist. Blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and safe exit alert are also standard. The 14-inch central screen will be used to display the standard surround-view and multi-terrain monitors, making outward visibility easier, especially in tight parking conditions or off-road.
