2026 Toyota
C-HR Preview

A familiar Toyota subcompact crossover is about to make its return after a three-year hiatus, with a fresh face and new technology. Discontinued in 2022, four years after its initial launch in 2018, the C-HR nameplate will rejoin the Toyota lineup for the 2026 model year. In a departure from the model’s first generation, the new C-HR will be fully electric, built on Toyota’s e-TNGA battery EV platform. This reintroduced model will be powerful for its size, boasting 338 horsepower, and will prioritize responsiveness and driver engagement with standard all-wheel-drive (AWD) and an automatic limited-slip differential. Drivers will be able to choose from a mix of the usual Toyota exterior colors, plus the newly added shades called Overcast and Tandoori, with a two-tone treatment available.

Look for the reborn C-HR to have a coupe-like shape and sporty styling, with a distinctive hammerhead front fascia and rear bumper diffuser. Its 25.4-cubic-foot cargo area will provide more than ample storage space for a subcompact crossover. Like every new Toyota, the 2026 C-HR will come with a ToyotaCare no-cost maintenance plan that covers regular factory-scheduled maintenance, including multipoint inspections, tire rotations, and oil changes for two years or 25,000 miles, plus two years of 24-hour roadside assistance with unlimited mileage.

Trims and Powertrain

The 2026 C-HR will be offered in two trims: SE and XSE. Their dual-motor (one front and one rear) powertrain will generate a combined 338 horsepower, achieving a 0-to-60 time of 5 seconds. An all-wheel drivetrain (AWD), regenerative braking with paddle shifters, and an automatic limited-slip differential will all be part of the mechanical picture. As mentioned, the C-HR will be built on the e-TNGA platform, which Toyota designed specifically for battery-electric vehicles. This platform is tuned for optimal spring and damper performance with a cross-framing structure for the ideal rigidity. The C-HR’s underfloor-mounted lithium-ion battery will enable a manufacturer-estimated range of up to 290 miles. When it’s plugged in to a DC fast charger, it should recharge from 10 to 80 percent in approximately 30 minutes. The C-HR will be outfitted with an 11-kW AC onboard charger and a NACS-compatible charging port, providing access to a vast nationwide network of charging stations. The battery will also have a preconditioning function to bring it to the optimal charging temperature in cold weather for better charging results.
