2024 Toyota Tacoma
2024 Toyota Tacoma
Redesigns are always exciting, but when it’s a vehicle with as strong a following as the Toyota Tacoma, then it’s really a big deal. Loved equally by those who need a tough work truck and those who just love leaving the pavement for some trail-riding fun, this midsized pickup has earned its decades of popularity. Its fourth generation kicks off with changes large and small, First off, it’s now built body-on-frame on the same TNGA-F variant platform as the larger Tundra, with more exciting powertrains to choose from. The Tacoma lineup has been expanded with the debut of the Trailhunter trim, designed especially for overlanding enthusiasts. For even more value, Tacoma buyers receive ToyotaCare coverage, a 2-year/25,000-mile complimentary maintenance program plus 24-hour roadside assistance.

Trims and Powertrains
The eight trim levels for the redesigned 2024 Tacoma are SR, SR5, TRD PreRunner, TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, Limited, Trailhunter, and TRD Pro. There are two cab configurations – Xtra and Double – with bed lengths of either 5 or 6 feet. The base engine is Toyota’s 2.4L turbocharged i-FORCE, which makes 278 horsepower and 317 pounds-feet of torque, matching the power of the previous V6 engine but with increased torque. Toyota still offers a six-speed manual transmission, with the added benefits of rev matching and anti-stall technology, which comes in handy during rocky climbs along the trails. An eight-speed automatic transmission is available as well, along with a choice of rear-wheel or four-wheel drive. The available i-FORCE MAX 2.4L turbocharged hybrid powertrain (automatic only) adds an electric motor between the engine and transmission for more power and efficiency: it boosts the output to 326 horsepower and 465 pounds-feet of torque. The Tacoma’s maximum towing capacity is 6,500 pounds, while payload caps out at 1,709 lb.
The EPA-estimated fuel economy ratings vary based on the powertrain and trim level. With the iFORCE 2.4L turbocharged engine, the numbers range from 19 to 21 mpg in the city and 23 to 26 mpg on the highway. As of this writing, the EPA had yet to release fuel economy numbers for the i-FORCE MAX engine.
