Trims, Powertrain, and Fuel Economy
The ‘26 Prius is a modern-looking and well-built gas-electric hatchback available in four trims: LE, XLE, Nightshade, and Limited. Under the hood of each is the highly efficient fifth-generation Toyota Hybrid System, which pairs a 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine with an advanced electric motor system. This innovative hybrid powertrain produces a total system output of 194 horsepower with front-wheel drive (FWD), or 196 horsepower with the available Electronic On-Demand All-Wheel Drive (AWD) system. All trims come with an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission (eCVT) and a compact lithium-ion battery.
Fuel economy is where the Prius gets a big golf star, as the LE FWD leads the pack with an impressive EPA-estimated 57 mpg in the city and 56 mpg on the highway. The other trims achieve 52 mpg city/52 mpg highway with FWD, while the AWD-equipped LE returns 53 mpg city/54 mpg highway. AWD versions of the XLE, Nightshade, and Limited trims still offer outstanding efficiency, with ratings of 49 mpg city/50 mpg highway.
