2024 Toyota Prius Prime in Framingham

2024 Toyota Prius Prime

Plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) are quite the hot commodity these days, as they give their drivers the benefits of all-electric driving without the worry of having to recharge mid-trip. As a true leader in the PHEV arena, the Prius Prime – which returns for model year 2024 after last year’s thorough redesign – has its corner of the market locked down. This model’s success can be attributed to several factors, namely its 44 miles of all-electric range, beautiful design, and lengthy list of first-class features. Better still, the ’24 Prius Prime is reasonably priced and comes with a generous complimentary maintenance plan (ToyotaCare) that provides 2 years/25,000 miles of routine factory-scheduled services and 24/7 roadside assistance.

Trims, Powertrain, and Performance

Three trims make up the 2024 Prius Prime lineup: the SE, XSE, and XSE Premium. Each is equipped with a plug-in hybrid powerplant pairing a 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine with a single electric motor to produce 220 hp. An electronically controlled continuously variable transmission (eCVT) feeds power to the front-wheel drivetrain. On a full charge, the SE provides 44 miles of electric range before handing the reins to the combustion engine. Factoring in the gas portion of the powertrain, this corresponds to 53 mpg in the city and 51 mpg on the highway. The electric range of the XSE and XSE Premium is 39 miles, with the total EPA efficiency rating estimated at around 50 city/47 highway.

Standard Equipment

The SE is appointed with proximity keyless entry, rain-sensing wipers, heated side mirrors, single-zone automatic climate control, a heated steering wheel wrapped in SofTex upholstery, push-button ignition, auto-off LED headlights, six USB-C charging ports, a 7-inch LCD multi-information display, a 60/40-split folding rear seatback, and a tonneau cover for the cargo area. In addition to getting enhanced headlights with auto-on, the XSE receives heated front seats with power adjustability for the driver, SofTex upholstery, an auto-dimming rearview mirror with HomeLink, wireless phone charging, and a folding rear center armrest with cupholders. It’s eligible for the optional fixed-glass roof and Smart Key, which are standard in the XSE Premium along with ventilated front seats, position memory for the driver’s seat, and a power liftback. For a higher dose of refinement, the XSE Premium can be upgraded with a solar charging roof, a digital rearview mirror, and heated rear seats.

Active Safety Tech

The Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 suite is standard across all trims, bundling a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, full-speed range dynamic radar cruise control, lane departure alert with steering assist, lane tracing assist, road sign assist, automatic high beams, and proactive driving assist. Each trim also comes with blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, front cross-traffic alert, lane change assist, safe exit assist, traffic jam assist, and a rear-seat reminder. The XSE and XSE Premium are set up with front and rear parking sensors and reverse automatic braking, but the XSE Premium alone qualifies for Advanced Park (Toyota’s convenient automatic parking system) and a surround-view camera.

Infotainment ad Connectivity

The SE and XSE both come with an 8-inch touchscreen multimedia array featuring wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio streaming, SiriusXM satellite radio, and a sound system with six speakers. The improvements to the XSE Premium are a 12.3-inch touchscreen (available for the XSE) and a first-rate eight-speaker JBL sound system. Every Prius Prime also gets a 30-day trial to Wi-Fi Connect and a one-year trial to Drive Connect, which bundles Cloud Navigation with Google Points of Interest, Intelligent Assistant advanced voice recognition, and Destination Assist.
