2024 Toyota GR Supra
Who doesn't love a spirited spin in a two-seater? The 2024 GR Supra is Toyota's representative in this
small but exciting segment, and it's designed to invoke delight through every turn. The Supra was
reintroduced for model year 2019 after being shelved in 2022, despite its popularity. Toyota
collaborated with BMW, which was redesigning its own roadster, the Z4, at the time. The difference back
then was that only the Z4 was offered with a manual transmission, while Supra buyers had to be content
with an automatic. By popular demand, though, Toyota began offering a stick shift in 2023, and that
purist-pleasing feature remains available for the 2024 model. After all, this is an enthusiast's car,
with its turbocharged powertrain, road-hugging handling, and overall extraordinary performance.
All GR Supra buyers will receive a 1-year complimentary National Auto Sport Association (NASA)
membership that includes a High-Performance Driving Experience with one NASA professional and discounted
admission to select events. Toyota is also celebrating a Supra milestone in 2024 with the 45th
Anniversary Edition. This limited run of 900 units will be painted either white or orange and
accessorized with black body-side graphics, matte black wheels, and an adjustable rear spoiler.
Trims and Powertrains
The rear-wheel-drive GR Supra comes with two engine choices. The 2.0-liter turbo inline-4 is the base
powerplant, pushing out 255 horsepower and 295 pounds-feet of torque, with a 0-to-60 time as low as 5.0
seconds. The more powerful 3.0-liter turbo inline-6 is rated for 382 horsepower and 368 pounds-feet of
torque and is designed to go 0-to-60 mph in as little as 3.9 seconds. (The top track speed of the 2024
GR Supra is 155 mph.) An 8-speed automatic with paddle shifters is the default transmission, but buyers
of the six-cylinder GR Supra can opt for coveted 6-speed manual.
With the base configuration, the EPA estimates fuel economy of 25 mpg around town and 31 mpg on the
highway. While the highway rating remains the same with the more potent setup, the city estimate drops
slightly to 23 mpg.
Standard Features
Toyota presents the GR Supra in four trim levels: 2.0, 3.0, 3.0 Premium, and 45th Anniversary Edition. The 2.0 has an 8.8” full-digital LCD gauge cluster, Alcantara leather-trimmed manual sport seats with lumbar support, dual-zone automatic climate control, a tilt/telescopic 3-spoke steering wheel wrapped in black leather, a 12V charging socket, and a 1.5A USB port. Exterior styling includes LED front turn signals, LED daytime running lights, LED taillights, LED backup lights, 6-lens auto-leveling LED headlights, gloss black auto-folding heated outside mirrors with an auto-tilting passenger mirror (in reverse), dual rear exhaust outlets topped with polished stainless-steel tips, and 18-inch cast-aluminum 10-spoke dual-tone wheels.
Advanced Driver Aids and Safety Technology
Every GR Supra has automatic high beams, along with a pre-collision system, pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, steering assist, brake assist, and a rearview camera. The Safety & Technology Package Plus JBL is offered in conjunction with the automatic transmission to install adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, parking sensors, emergency braking and upgraded infotainment features (see the next section for details). Another optional bundle for the automatic version is the Driver Assist Package, which adds the safety technology without the infotainment upgrades. Buyers of the manual transmission trims can elect to add these packages, but they will not get adaptive cruise control or emergency braking.
Infotainment and Connectivity
The 2.0 gets the base system, which has an 8.8” infotainment touchscreen, SiriusXM satellite radio, Bluetooth, and a four-speaker sound system; a 10-speaker 205-watt Hi-Fi sound system is the upgrade for the 3.0. The 3.0 Premium adds navigation, a 12-speaker JBL 500-watt surround-sound audio system, and Supra Connect (includes emergency calling, remote lock/ventilation, real-time traffic, and map updates). The Safety & Technology Package Plus JBL supplies navigation, the 12-speaker JBL sound system, wireless Apple CarPlay, and Supra Connect.
