Timing is everything in the community of Ashland Massachusetts. Inventor Henry E. Warren developed the Warren Synchronizing Timer in Ashland, MA during 1916. The Synchronizing Timer made electric clocks possible by keeping alternating currents flowing from local Ashland power plants at a consistent sixty cycles per second. Warren later founded the Telechron Company in Ashland, which began to manufacture electric clocks in partnership with General Electric. The Telechron facilities in Ashland produced millions of electronic clocks for consumers from table-top and wall models to standing grandfather styles. Telechron was one of the biggest employers in the community of Ashland during its peak from 1925 to 1955. With the invention of battery operated clocks and the decline of electric powered ones, sales of Telechron clocks declined and the company closed its Ashland facilities in 1992.

The town of Ashland, MA was so deep-rooted in the production of clocks that sports teams from Ashland High School were nicknamed "The Clockers". The title is still used today for Ashland High sports teams, more than 26-years after Telechron closed its Ashland, MA facilities.

There's no doubt the Warren Synchronizing Timer revolutionized both electronic clocks and the industry in the Ashland, MA area.
