2023 Toyota Corolla Cross in Framingham
2023 Toyota Corolla Cross
It’s the sophomore year for the Corolla Cross, a compact crossover that made its debut for model year 2022. This time around, the namesake of Toyota’s ever-popular compact sedan has even better driver-assist technology, standard wireless smartphone integration, and an improved infotainment array. It also still gets the added value of ToyotaCare, which provides complimentary scheduled maintenance (tire rotations, oil/filter changes, and multipoint checkups) for 2 years/25,000 miles; two years of 24/7 roadside assistance is included, too. For those who want to increase their efficiency even more, Toyota has introduced the gas-electric Corolla Cross Hybrid for model year 2023.

Trims, Powertrain, and Efficiency
The L, LE, and XLE are the three trim levels of the 2023 Corolla Cross. Their 169-horsepower 2.0-liter
four-cylinder engine pairs up with a continuously variable transmission (CVT). Front-wheel drive (FWD)
is standard, and all-wheel-drive (AWD) is optional.
A properly equipped Corolla Cross is able to
tow as much as 1,500 pounds. For interior cargo, the capacity behind the back seat holds 24 cubic feet
for an FWD Corolla Cross; AWD takes up a bit more space, so capacity in that version dips a bit to 21.5
cubic feet. The EPA has officially estimated that the FWD Corolla Cross achieves 31 mpg around town and
33 mpg on the highway, while the AWD version returns 29 mpg city/32 mpg highway.
Standard and Optional Features by Trim Level
The L trim has some no-nonsense attributes such as cloth upholstery, manually controlled front seats,
17-inch steel wheels with covers, and manual air conditioning with rear-seat vents, along with modern
convenience features such as auto-off LED headlights, heated power side mirrors, a tilt/telescopic
steering wheel, intermittent windshield wipers, and a 4.2-inch driver information display.
The LE
adds treats such as proximity keyless entry, automatic climate control (one zone), push-button start,
heated power exterior mirrors with built-in turn-signal indicators, rear privacy glass, variable
intermittent windshield wipers, an intermittent rear window wiper, a leather-trimmed steering wheel,
black roof rails, and 17-inch alloy wheels. The LE Moonroof Package will add the obvious moonroof along
with a cover for the cargo area.
The XLE is loaded, at least in Corolla Cross terms, with full
LED exterior lighting (including fog lights), SofTex upholstery, heated front seats, two zones of
automatic climate control, a 10-way power-adjustable driver's seat, a 7-inch digital gauge cluster, a
leather-wrapped shifter knob, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a cargo-area cover, a rear folding
armrest, and 18-inch alloy wheels. The available XLE Convenience Package supplies a power moonroof and a
power liftgate.
Advanced Driver Aids and Safety Technology
Every Corolla Cross has Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 installed. This safety-enhancing technology bundle contains automatic high beams, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure alert with steering assist, lane-tracing assist, adaptive cruise control, and road sign assist. Blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and safe exit assist are added to the LE and XLE; only the XLE receives parking sensors (front and rear) with automatic braking. All trims get nine airbags, vehicle stability control, traction control, anti-lock brakes, hill start assist, and Smart Stop Technology (to prevent unintended acceleration), as well as a rearview monitor (the monitor in the XLE is made deluxe with the addition of dynamic guidelines).
Staying Connected
An 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system is standard issue. All trims get wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, Bluetooth, an audio system with six speakers, and multiple USB ports. The LE and XLE are upgraded with wireless device charging and are eligible for JBL sound system with nine speakers. Toyota connected services (emergency assistance, vehicle monitoring, remote vehicle access, and a Wi-Fi hotspot) are accessible to all trims; cloud-based navigation is available.
