Now for 2023, this remarkable hatchback enters its fifth generation with a modernized new look, improved driving spirit, and a more upscale interior.

Efficiency Meets Elegance
Built on Toyota's new Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform, the fifth-generation Prius offers enhanced structural rigidity, improved handling, and a smoother ride quality. The TNGA platform not only enhances the Prius' driving dynamics but also provides a solid foundation for advanced safety features and cutting-edge technology. Inside the cabin, the Prius boasts a more refined and upscale interior compared to its predecessors. High-quality materials, soft-touch surfaces, and ergonomic design elements create a comfortable and inviting environment for both the driver and passengers.
Trims, Powertrain, and Efficiency
Three grades of the 2023 Prius are offered: LE, XLE, and Limited. Their revamped hybrid powertrain consists of a 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine and a single electric motor. With front-wheel drive, the Prius makes 194 hp, but that rise a tad to 196 hp with available all-wheel drive (which Toyota has tweaked this year for better performance). Fuel economy is of course the major attraction factor of this vehicle. According to the EPA's official estimations, the FWD LE achieves 57 mpg in the city and 56 mpg on the highway (the AWD LE returns 53 city/54 highway). The FWD XLE and Limited pull off 52 mpg for both city and highway, but AWD changes those ratings to 49 city/50 highway.
Notable Equipment
Toyota outfits the ‘23 Prius with an array of desirable features. The LE is issued auto-off LED headlights, heated side mirrors, proximity keyless entry (Smart Key), push-button start, a steering wheel wrapped in synthetic leather, automatic climate control, a 7-inch multi-information display, and a 60/40-split fold-down rear seatback. The XLE receives upgraded headlights with auto-on, plus rain-sensing wipers, expanded Smart Key access, faux-leather front seats with heating and driver's power adjustments, wireless phone charging, an auto-dimming rearview mirror with HomeLink, and a pair of rear-seat cupholders. A fixed-glass roof and Digital Key are optional. Those options become standard on the Limited, along with ventilated front seats and a driver's position memory system. A digital rearview mirror and heated rear seats are available.
Advanced Driving Aids
The up-to-date Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 bundle is standard across the board. It consists of a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, full-speed range dynamic radar cruise control, lane departure alert with steering assist, lane tracing assist, road sign assist, automatic high beams, and proactive driving assist, which provides gentle braking and/or steering support. Blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, safe exit warning, and a rear-seat reminder are included as well. The XLE and Limited gain front and rear parking sensors with reverse automatic braking (these features are available for the LE). The Limited alone can be ordered with a panoramic view monitor and Advanced Park, Toyota's recently introduced automatic parking system.
Multimedia and Connectivity
All three trim levels boast new infotainment systems for 2023. The LE and XLE both get an 8-inch touchscreen setup with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth hands-free, and a six-speaker sound system, while the Limited is enhanced with a 12.3-inch interface (which is optional for the XLE) and a deluxe eight-speaker JBL audio system. Every 2023 Prius also has six USB-C ports and trial subscriptions to Wi-Fi Connect, Service Connect, Remote Connect, and Safety Connect. The loaded Drive Connect service (which bundles Cloud Navigation with Google Points of Interest, Intelligent Assistant voice recognition, and Destination Assist) is available via a paid subscription.
